My name is Nicky Owusu I am a Ghanaian-American and a military spouse. I am a Resident in Counseling and a certified relationship coach. I bring a culturally informed and diverse perspective to counseling. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Childhood Studies from Christopher Newport University and my Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University.
My goal is to meet my clients where they are to ensure they have the right tools to navigate their mental health challenges while living a meaningful life. I believe healing is not linear and not a one-size fit all. So, I utilize therapeutic interventions such as CBT, DBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing; to help clients develop practical coping skills, gain insight, and create meaningful change.
My specialty areas include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress management, and emotional regulation. I am particularly passionate about supporting adolescents and young adults as they navigate identity development, interpersonal relationships, and major life changes.
I believe every individual has the capacity for growth and healing. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped to build healthier relationships with themselves and others.
