One in five children have a mental, emotional or behavioral health disorder, but only 20% of those children receive care or treatment.

There’s a major need for accessible, inclusive and comprehensive solutions that address the youth mental health crisis, and that’s why we’re thrilled to introduce you to our new app: Hello Backpack.

Hello Backpack uses bibliotherapy, mood tracking, journaling and personalized care plans to empower young individuals, their families and their caregivers with valuable mental healthcare.

Personalized Care and Clinically-Backed Bibliotherapy

Upon signing up for the app, children will gain access to interactive, developmentally appropriate workbooks featuring animated characters, stories and games to help them identify, understand and cope with emotional challenges.

Over time, the app will also use data collected through its symptom and mood tracking features to customize the child’s stories and character interactions.

Hello Backpack’s content was created by our therapists and a team of Emmy Award-winning writers known for their work with Disney, Nickelodeon, Sesame Street and more.

Other app features include:

  • Journaling
  • Patient and parent dashboards
  • Mental health assessments
  • Custom care plans

Families in Maryland and Virginia can also use the Hello Backpack app to get connected with a therapist if additional mental health support is needed. Families outside of these states can use Hello Backpack’s assessment feature to gain a better understanding of their symptoms and decide whether therapy is the right next step for their child or teen.

“The ongoing increase in youth mental health challenges leaves families with limited options for assistance. Our innovative mental health app for children and their families represents a source of optimism and encouragement for a generation grappling with crises,” said Hafeezah Muhammad, founder & CEO of Backpack Healthcare.
