About Nkiyah

I am currently an elementary school–based therapist and a Licensed Master Social Worker in Washington, DC and Maryland. Born and raised in Washington, DC, I earned my Master of Social Work from Howard University. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Communication and Media from Lynn University in Boca Raton. My professional experience includes working as a Case Manager and Researcher, as well as completing the Project Press Preparing Responsive and Effective School Social Workers Fellowship, where I received specialized training in child and adolescent therapy. My approach is interactive, creative, and strengths-based. I incorporate play-based and art-based activities, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and parent coaching to support children in expressing themselves, building confidence, and developing executive functioning skills such as organization, focus, and problem-solving. I also enjoy sharing films, TV shows, and books that reinforce therapeutic themes, helping children and families continue building insight and growth beyond sessions. I work closely with both children and their families to strengthen communication, build resilience, and support emotional development. My goal is to help each child recognize their strengths, grow with confidence, and feel truly understood and supported.
